積分計算說明 Rating System

臺中市體育總會西洋棋委員會(下稱 TCA)，現在將採用國際棋聯的積分計算方式計算

此計分方法是一個2因素系統，其中 UNR 選手和臨時評級選手的 K /40系統 ( K 表示在一場比賽中參賽者的分數可增加或減少的大值 ) （前 20 場比賽）。20場之後所有比賽的 K/20系統。 （如有必要，將於 2024 年 1 月進行審核和更改）

This is a 2- factor system where UNR players and provisional rated players will have a K-factor of 40 (for the first 20 games) and a K factor of 20 for all games after that. (This will be reviewed and changed if necessary in January 2024)

從未有積分的棋手，都將以積分=0 做為比賽時的配對條件。如果有多於1個以上的無積分棋手，則會以英文姓名的第1個字母的順序配對。當一場賽事完成配對後，所有的棋手會被給予 1000分的臨時積分 (Provisional Rating) 做為第一場 賽事起始積分。

Players who have never had points will use points = 0 as a matching condition during the match. If there are more than 1 non-integral players, they will be paired in the order of the first letter of the English name. When an event is matched, all players will be given a Provisional Rating of 1000 points as the starting point of the first event.

所謂的臨時積分是無積分棋手在個人的前20局比賽時的代表積分。西洋棋選手的積分將從 1000 分開始。然後會根據對手的積分、輸和贏以及 K 因子系統而加分或減分。在前 20 場比賽中，選手的 K因子系統最高將會達到 40分。此計算會使選手能夠更快地獲得積分，以接近選手們的真實積分。 20 場比賽後，選手的積分將被視為正式積分。簡言之，臨時積分在比賽中用來將棋手配對的一個措施。

The so-called provisional points are the representative points of the non-integral chess player in the first 20 games of the individual. The chess player’s rating will start with a base of 1000 points. Then will go up or down based on their opponent’s rating, winning or losing, and the K-factor. In the first 20 games the player will have a higher K-factor of 40. This allows them to gain points more quickly to get close to their true rating. After 20 games you will be considered to have an official rating.

當棋手擁有正式積分後，TCA 將開始以 ELO 等級分制度來計算該棋手的積分。取得 TCA 的正式積分的方法有以下 2 個途徑：

  1. 以臨時積分比賽 20局，將得到 TCA 的正式積分
  2. 若己擁有 FIDE 積分，這將做為 TCA 的起始積分 以 FIDE 積分做為 TCA 的起始 積分時，最高起始積分為 2000分，即使該選手在 FIDE 超過 2000分也將以2000分計做為起始積分。以 FIDE 做為 TCA 的起始積分是權宜 的做法。TCA 的積分計算，並不會影響到 FIDE上的積分

世界各國對高等級棋手皆授與高度尊重，大師頭銜的取得相當困難，需有相當高水準的棋藝。TCA依積分與年齡授予三種不同的榮譽頭銜。

  1. Primary Master 初級西洋棋大師：12歲以下(含)棋士正式積分達到 1700分，將被授予『初級西洋棋大師』稱號。
  2. Junior Master 青少西洋棋大師：16歲以下(含)棋士正式積分達到 1900分，將被授予『青少西洋棋大師』稱號。
  3. Chess Master 西洋棋大師：當正式積分達到 2200分，將被授予『西洋棋大師』稱號。

ELO等級分制度最大的缺陷是在於：當一位棋手的棋藝有大幅的進步時，無法及時將此反映於積分上。因此美國西洋棋協會試著以獎勵積分制度來彌補此一缺陷。即該棋手在單場賽事中的總增加積分超過 50分時，則將此積分加倍計算。 對資淺的棋手來說，在前二年透過此方法，來讓他們的棋藝更快速且確實的反映出在他們的積分上是相當合適的。 (關於此獎勵積分制度的實施可能在臺中市體育總會西洋棋委員會的年度會議裡被檢討、修正)

The rating system for the TCA is based on the 1960 ELO system.

This will be a single tier k/32 factor system as opposed to the 2 or 3 tier systems that USCF and other organizations use. If there are thousands of members someday this may need to be revised.

Unrated players will have 0 rating for pairing purposes. If there is more than one UNR they will be paired alphabetically. When the tournament is being rated, all rating calculations will be made as if the player had a 1200 rating during the first tournament. After that the provisional rating will be used.

Provisional ratings are based on the rating average of the first 20 tournament games. During the provisional period, if you win a game you take your opponents rating +400 and add it to your average, if you draw you take your opponents rating and average it in, and if you lose you take your opponents rating -400 and average it in. You keep doing this until 20 games have been played and at that point you have the Official Rating. During the time you have a provisional rating, if you are given a bye or a forfeit win, you will have a 1200 rating averaged in, after you have the official rating a bye or forfeit win will not be eligible for any rating. Provisional ratings are used for pairing purposes after the first tournament!

TCA starts ELO style ratings when you have been given an official rating. There are two ways to get an official rating:

  1. Once you have played 20 provisional games you will be given an official rating.
  2. If you have a fide rating - that will be your first official rating. 3. The maximum rating given to any fide player is 2000 (any fide over 2000 will start at 2000). TCA calculations will not have any influence on a players fide rating! The fide rating is simply a number used to create the TCA official rating.

There will be 3 titles awarded based on rating. These titles in order to be taken seriously should be very difficult to attain!

  1. Master – anyone that reaches a 2200 official rating.
  2. Junior Master – anyone 16 years old and under that reaches a 1900 official rating.
  3. Primary Master – anyone 12 years old and under that reaches a 1700 official rating.

The k/32 factor system means that the most you can win, and the most you can lose is 32 points per game. The least you can win, or lose is 1 point per game.

  • Example #1
    If you play somebody 400 or more points higher than you, if you win you get 32 points, if you draw you get 16 points, if you lose you lose 1 point.
  • Example #2
    If you play somebody your same rating + or – 24 points, if you win you get 16 points, if you lose you lose 16 points, if you draw 0 points.
  • Example #3
    If you play somebody 25 to 49 points higher than you, if you win you get 17 points, if you tie you get 1 point, if you lose, you lose 15 points.

Basically for every 25 rating point difference, the scale goes up or down by one point until you reach the maximum difference of 400 points.

The main flaw of Professor Elo's rating system was that it didn't take into account large jumps in skill that can happen when a player really starts to take a leap in understanding. In the 1980's USCF tried to correct this with a bonus system that doubled any point gained over 50 in a single tournament. I think this is a very reasonable way to to ratings for the first two years to get some of the youth players up to their proper rating more quickly, we can revise the subject again during yearly meetings.
